Nigerian Afrobeats star Daniel Anidugbe, popularly known as Kizz Daniel, has officially reclaimed ownership of his debut album 'New Era' from his former record label, G-Worldwide.
The singer announced the significant development via his X handle on Monday, revealing that he has also retrieved the masters of his hit singles 'Yeba' and 'Sofa'.
"From long nights in the studio to several meditations, finally, I now own every song on the 'New Era album' 2016 + Yeba & Sofa (singles)," Kizz Daniel wrote.
"I got my masters back. This means more than words can explain. Thank you for riding with me. #NewEra #MyCatalog #Grateful," he added, expressing the emotional significance of this achievement.
Background of the Label Dispute
Kizz Daniel released his debut album 'New Era' on May 14, 2016, under G-Worldwide. The relationship between the artist and label later soured, leading to his departure in November 2017 when he established his own label, Flyboy I.N.C.
Following his exit, Kizz Daniel faced legal challenges when G-Worldwide's boss, Emperor Geezy, sued him. However, the artist was eventually acquitted of all charges.
In a surprising turn of events, Kizz Daniel announced in 2023 that he had appointed Emperor Geezy as the new chief executive officer of his Flyboy I.N.C. imprint, suggesting a reconciliation between the former adversaries.
This latest development marks a significant milestone in Kizz Daniel's career, giving him complete ownership of his early works that helped establish him as one of Nigeria's leading music artists.
The reclamation of masters rights has become an increasingly important issue in the music industry globally, with many artists fighting to own their creative works outright rather than having them controlled by record labels.
