The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced that the newly renovated International Conference Centre (ICC) will not be handed over to politicians after its commissioning scheduled for Tuesday, June 10, 2025.

Wike made this declaration on Monday while inspecting the facility and other ongoing projects slated for commissioning. He emphasized that the centre will be maintained by Julius Berger, the construction company responsible for building it.

"The centre will be maintained by Julius Berger, the company that built it. We're not going to hand it over to any politician to manage," Wike stated.

Professional Management Assured

The minister downplayed concerns about potential mismanagement of the facility, assuring that well-trained Nigerians will operate the newly installed technologies at the centre.

"The staff working there are Nigerians who have been supervised by us to operate the technology that's not complicated, and we'll start operations soon after commissioning," he added.

It should be recalled that Wike had shut down the facility in April 2024, citing poor handling by its former managers. This directive resulted in the cancellation of all previously booked events and activities at the centre.

Projects Commissioning

Meanwhile, several projects constructed and completed under Wike's leadership are set to be commissioned by President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima. These projects include roads, bridges, and other facilities, with commissioning ceremonies beginning on Tuesday, June 10, 2025.

The ICC renovation represents part of the minister's efforts to improve infrastructure and service delivery in the Federal Capital Territory.
