The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has launched the distribution of 10,000 professional kits for midwives in the South-East region on Monday, marking the completion of a nationwide initiative to support healthcare workers.

The distribution is part of a broader effort to complement the federal government's ongoing retraining exercise for 120,000 frontline health workers across the country, with over 60,000 health workers having already completed their training.

Nationwide Distribution of Healthcare Kits

"In view of this, the Renewed Hope Initiative is distributing 60,000 kits (scrubs and Crocs) to our midwives, nurses, and other health workers as an incentive to encourage them in their work and improve healthcare delivery," Senator Tinubu stated during the launch.

The First Lady revealed that since January 2025, 50,000 kits have already been distributed across five geopolitical zones including the South-West, South-South, North-East, North-West, and North-Central regions. The South-East distribution of 10,000 kits completes the nationwide initiative.

"I thank God that today we're concluding the distribution of these kits to every part of Nigeria. I'm very excited about that," she added.

According to the First Lady, the donations were made possible through the generous support of an anonymous global partner dedicated to improving health outcomes for Nigerian citizens.

Free to Shine Triple Elimination Campaign

In addition to the kit distribution, Senator Tinubu announced the launch of the "Free to Shine Triple Elimination Campaign" for HIV/AIDS, syphilis, and hepatitis in Enugu State. This initiative aims to promote healthier mothers, reduce new HIV infections, and eliminate mother-to-child transmission of HIV.

The campaign is expected to significantly contribute to improving maternal and child health outcomes in the region, aligning with the broader healthcare improvement goals of the current administration.
