Popular Nigerian skit maker Brain Jotter has expressed his grief over the passing of veteran musician Mike 'Gentleman' Ejeagha, who died on Friday night after battling prostate cancer.
In an emotional Instagram post on Saturday, Brain Jotter shared a video of himself with Ejeagha from their meeting in Enugu in 2024. "39 years ago, he made magic (Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo song). 39 years later, we danced to it again. Now, he rests, but his melody lives forever. Rest in peace, legend," he wrote in the caption.
The Viral Resurgence of a Classic
Ejeagha's 1983 hit song 'Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo' experienced a remarkable revival last year when Brain Jotter incorporated it into a dance challenge that took social media by storm. The challenge garnered over 29.1 million views and 30,000 comments on Instagram, along with more than 19.6 million views on TikTok.
Following the viral success of the challenge, Brain Jotter visited the aging musician in Enugu, presenting him with a cash gift of ₦2 million in recognition of the renewed interest in his music.
As reported by BenriNews, the family confirmed that the beloved singer passed away due to complications from prostate cancer.
