The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has confirmed a fire outbreak at a hotel accommodating Nigerian pilgrims on Shari Mansur Street in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. The incident occurred on Saturday around noon Saudi Arabian time.
According to a statement released by NAHCON Assistant Director Information and Publication Division, Fatima Sanda Usara, the affected hotel, Imaratus Sanan, was hosting approximately 484 pilgrims from six Nigerian Private Tour Operator Companies at the time of the incident.
Fortunately, no lives were lost in the fire as all pilgrims were safely in Mina valley observing one of the core Hajj rites when the incident occurred. The statement highlighted that "immediate emergency response by Saudi authorities and the hotel management helped to contain the fire swiftly and prevent it from spreading all over the building."
Swift Response from NAHCON Leadership
NAHCON Chairman, Professor Abdullahi Saleh, alongside other officials, promptly visited the hotel to assess the situation and determine appropriate actions. Following the assessment, the Chairman ordered the immediate relocation of the affected pilgrims to new accommodation.
The Commission has assured that it will work closely with the affected tour operators to provide necessary assistance to all victims of the incident. This swift response demonstrates NAHCON's commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of Nigerian pilgrims performing the sacred journey.
This incident comes as Nigerian pilgrims continue their spiritual obligations during the 2025 Hajj season. The Hajj, one of the five pillars of Islam, requires Muslims who are physically and financially capable to make the journey to Makkah at least once in their lifetime.
