President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to participate in the 17th BRICS Summit of Heads of State and Government scheduled for July 6-7, 2025.
According to a statement released by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President's aircraft touched down at the Galeão Air Force Base at 8:45 pm on Friday. President Tinubu was invited by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva to attend the high-profile international gathering.
Upon arrival, Tinubu was received by the commander of the base, Brazil's deputy minister for Africa and the Middle East, Ambassador Carlos Sergio Sobral Duarte, and the deputy minister for trade promotion, science, technology, innovation, and culture.
Nigeria's Economic Agenda at BRICS
During the summit, President Tinubu is expected to deliver an address at the plenary session, highlighting Nigeria's ongoing economic reforms and efforts to reposition the country for global competitiveness.
"At the BRICS Summit, the President will participate in a plenary session and deliver an address on Nigeria's ongoing reforms to reposition the economy for global competitiveness," the statement noted.
Beyond the formal sessions, Tinubu will also engage with potential investors, focusing on key sectors including agriculture, solid minerals, healthcare, and alternative energy. These engagements aim to attract foreign investment to capitalize on Nigeria's diverse economic opportunities.
The BRICS Summit brings together leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, and other invited nations, providing a significant platform for Nigeria to strengthen its international partnerships and economic diplomacy.
This visit marks an important step in Nigeria's engagement with the BRICS bloc, which represents a substantial portion of global economic output and population.
