Spain international Lamine Yamal has predicted that his country's UEFA Nations League final against Portugal will be just as challenging as their semi-final encounter with France.
The Barcelona winger made this statement after Spain secured a thrilling 5-4 victory over France in Thursday's semi-final match played in Germany. Yamal himself was instrumental in the win, netting twice at the MHP Arena Stadium in Stuttgart.
"France is a great team, they make you suffer, it's normal," Yamal told reporters after the match. "They have players who make you suffer until the end. But we are very happy with the victory."
When asked about the upcoming final against Portugal, who defeated Germany 2-1 in their semi-final on Wednesday, the young star was respectful of their opponents' quality.
"It will be the same as this match [Spain vs France], with players of great world class," he explained. "We are very good teams and I hope to take the Cup to Spain."
The Nations League final between Spain and Portugal is scheduled for Sunday, June 9, 2025, with both teams looking to claim the prestigious European trophy.
Rising Star on the International Stage
Yamal's performance in the tournament has further cemented his reputation as one of football's brightest young talents. His brace against France has not only helped Spain reach the final but has also strengthened his position in discussions surrounding the 2025 Ballon d'Or award.
The Barcelona winger has been making waves both at club level and on the international stage, with his technical ability and goal-scoring prowess drawing comparisons to some of the game's greatest players.
Sunday's final will provide another opportunity for the young star to showcase his talents on one of football's biggest stages as Spain aims to add another trophy to their impressive collection of international honors.
Meanwhile, Portugal, led by Cristiano Ronaldo who scored the winner against Germany, will be looking to stop Spain's momentum and claim the Nations League title for themselves.
