The Oduduwa Frontiers and the pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, have publicly clashed over their assessment of President Bola Tinubu's midterm performance, highlighting growing divisions among Yoruba groups regarding the administration's achievements.

Afenifere, in a statement issued by its Leader and National Publicity Secretary, Oba Oladipo Olaitan and Justice Faloye on Sunday, delivered a scathing critique of the President's Renewed Hope agenda, claiming it has "turned into a nightmare for Nigerians." The group further asserted that every human development and sociopolitical index has regressed under Tinubu's leadership.

In sharp contrast, the Oduduwa Frontiers, through its National President Kolawale Adediji Kazeem, expressed disappointment at Afenifere's position, describing their remarks as "unrealistic" and "uninformed."

Conflicting Perspectives on Tinubu's Administration

The Oduduwa Frontiers defended President Tinubu, arguing that the current administration inherited deeply rooted problems from previous governments. "The assertion that every human development and sociopolitical index has regressed since the inception of this administration is not only misleading but also reflects a profound misunderstanding of the complexities facing our nation today," the group stated.

They further emphasized that the Renewed Hope agenda was never intended as a promise of immediate transformation but rather a commitment to long-term reform and national recovery. The group highlighted that the administration has faced "unprecedented challenges, including economic shocks, security threats, and a global environment still reeling from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic."

Oduduwa Frontiers also pointed to ongoing initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure, enhancing security, and promoting economic diversification, suggesting that while results may not be immediately visible, the groundwork for sustainable development is being laid.

Call for Constructive Dialogue

The group called on Afenifere to reassess its position and engage in more nuanced discussions about governance. "We implore them to move beyond sensational rhetoric and to engage in constructive criticism that acknowledges the complexities of governance," they stated.

This public disagreement between two prominent Yoruba organizations highlights the polarized views regarding President Tinubu's performance at the midpoint of his term, reflecting broader divisions in Nigerian society about the direction and pace of national development under the current administration.

The clash comes at a critical time when many Nigerians are evaluating the tangible impacts of government policies on their daily lives amid ongoing economic challenges.
