The Abia State government has issued a stern warning to Reginald Okafor to cease parading himself as the Eze-elect of Amairoke community, emphasizing that the government only recognizes Eze Moses Okwale as the legitimate traditional ruler of the entire Umuchieze autonomous community.

This declaration came during a meeting convened by Deputy Governor Ikechuckwu Emetu on Thursday to address the lingering leadership tussle between Orronta and Amairoke villages in Lokpa Ukwu, Eluama Umuchieze autonomous community, Umunnochi Local Government Area.

Government's Position on Amairoke Community

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Uzor Nwachukwu, represented by Permanent Secretary Ogeh Maduka, clarified that Amairoke is not recognized as an autonomous community under Abia State laws. The government maintains that Amairoke remains an integral part of Lokpa Ukwu within the Umuchieze block of Umunneochi local government area.

"The actions of Chief Reginald Okafor, who has been parading himself as 'Eze-elect of Amairoke,' are deemed unauthorised, misleading, and illegal," the statement read. "These actions contravene the Abia State Traditional Rulers and Autonomous Communities Law (as amended)."

The government further disassociated itself from the purported coronation ceremony held on December 23, 2024, which it said was conducted without the knowledge, consent, or endorsement of the Ministry. Officials warned that Okafor's actions are subject to prosecution.

Measures to Restore Peace

During the meeting, Deputy Governor Emetu advised villagers to embrace peaceful coexistence, emphasizing that peace is the only pathway to sustainable development in the area.

To foster unity and ensure community oversight, the Deputy Governor announced the constitution of a seven-member steering committee drawn from both Orronta and Amairoke villages. The committee, which includes Eze Okwale, has been tasked with overseeing mining activities in the area.

The government reiterated that it would only acknowledge government-recognized communities and traditional rulers, in line with established state laws.
