The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has called on Nigerians to embrace tolerance as a fundamental value during this year's Eid-al-Adha celebration, describing it as essential for national development.
In his Sallah message to Nigerians, particularly the Muslim faithful, NOA Director-General, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu emphasized that tolerance serves as a catalyst for national growth and prosperity.
Tolerance: A Cornerstone for National Unity
"Embracing diversity and promoting understanding is key to building a harmonious society where citizens live in peace and mutual respect, particularly in a diverse nation like Nigeria," Issa-Onilu stated.
The NOA chief highlighted that tolerance enables Nigeria to tap into the collective potential of its diverse population, thereby unlocking unprecedented progress and prosperity for all citizens.
Environmental Awareness and Sustainable Living
Beyond tolerance, Issa-Onilu also emphasized the critical importance of environmental awareness, urging Nigerians to prioritize sustainable living practices and responsible resource management.
"As we celebrate this sacred occasion, let us recognize our responsibility towards the environment and take collective action to protect it, particularly in the face of challenges like flooding that affected Mokwa Community in Niger State," he said.
The Director-General called for collaborative efforts to prevent flooding, protect communities, and promote sustainable practices that ensure a safer and more resilient future for all Nigerians.
Embodying the Spirit of Sallah
Issa-Onilu enjoined Muslim faithful to reflect the spirit of the Sallah celebration by promoting peace, tolerance, and togetherness in their communities. He urged them to let the values of compassion and forgiveness guide their interactions with others during and beyond the festive period.
The Federal Government has declared June 6 and 9 as public holidays to mark this year's Eid-al-Adha celebration, providing Nigerians with the opportunity to reflect on these important values.
