Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has revealed he is deliberately protecting striker Victor Osimhen ahead of a potential big-money transfer this summer, explaining the player's absence from Nigeria's recent squad selections.

Osimhen, 26, was notably missing from Nigeria's squad for the ongoing Unity Cup and the upcoming friendly against Russia scheduled for June 6. The striker has just completed a productive loan spell at Turkish giants Galatasaray, where he netted an impressive 26 goals.

Chelle Names Potential Destinations

Speaking to BBC Sport, Chelle identified four elite European clubs that could secure Osimhen's signature in the coming transfer window.

"I need to protect him physically and mentally, because maybe he will go [and get a transfer move]," Chelle explained. "Maybe a club like Manchester United. Or maybe Chelsea, Barcelona or Real Madrid. So he needs to be focused on that."

The Nigerian striker's future remains uncertain following his loan spell in Turkey. His parent club situation and next destination continue to be subjects of intense speculation in football circles.

Saudi Interest in Nigerian Striker

Beyond the European giants mentioned by Chelle, reports suggest that several clubs from the Saudi Arabia Pro League are also monitoring Osimhen's situation closely and could table competitive offers for the prolific forward.

Galatasaray's vice-president has previously hinted that financial considerations would likely play a significant role in determining Osimhen's next move, suggesting the striker's decision may ultimately come down to the most lucrative offer.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles camp continues preparations for their friendly against Russia with 22 players already in attendance, as Chelle looks to build a competitive squad even without his star striker.
