The Ebonyi State Police Command has apprehended Ezeoke Chidera, a resident of Egugho Ezzagu in Ishielu Local Government Area, for allegedly killing his elderly neighbour, Mrs. Awoke Rose, with a shovel.

According to a statement released by the Ebonyi Police Public Relations Officer, Joshua Ukandu, the incident occurred on June 2, 2025, when authorities received a report at approximately 6:00 am about the brutal attack.

"On 02/06/2025 at about 0600hrs, we received a report that one Ezeoke Chidera, who lives in the same compound with Mrs Awoke Rose, 'F' aged about 60-year at Egugho Ezzagu in Ishielu LGA, attacked the said Mrs Awoke Rose hitting her several times with a shovel and abandoned her in a pool of her blood," the statement detailed.

Investigation Underway

The police spokesperson confirmed that officers successfully apprehended the suspect shortly after the attack. "The command is currently investigating to understand the motive of the brazen attack," Ukandu added.

The victim and the suspect reportedly shared the same residential compound in Egugho Ezzagu community. Authorities have not yet disclosed what might have triggered the violent assault that left the septuagenarian dead.

This incident has raised concerns about domestic violence and safety within shared living spaces in the community. Local residents expressed shock at the brutal nature of the attack.

The Ebonyi State Police Command has urged citizens to report suspicious activities promptly and to seek peaceful means of resolving disputes with neighbors and community members.
