Chief Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, the 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate for Ebonyi State, has categorically denied rumors suggesting he plans to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The denial comes in response to public statements attributed to Stanley Okoro Emegha, the Ebonyi State APC Chairman, who had reportedly claimed that Odii was considering joining the ruling party.
In an official statement released to the press, Odii emphatically stated: "Let me categorically state that I am not considering joining the APC, now or in the foreseeable future. I am yet to see any compelling reason—ideological, political, or developmental—that would warrant such a decision."
The former PDP gubernatorial candidate reaffirmed his commitment to what he described as "the ideals of purposeful leadership, people-oriented governance, and genuine democratic progress," emphasizing that these values continue to guide his political engagements.
I believe in building a society anchored on justice, equity, and service—not opportunism or political convenience.
While acknowledging Emegha's right to express opinions and promote his party, Odii urged political leaders to "refrain from speculative statements that may mislead the public or distort the political landscape of Ebonyi State."
The statement comes amid ongoing political realignments in Ebonyi State, which has seen several high-profile defections between the major parties in recent years. However, Odii appears determined to remain with the opposition PDP, despite the APC's dominance in the state's political landscape.
Odii concluded his statement by expressing appreciation for "the continued support, trust, and encouragement" from his supporters and the people of Ebonyi State, while reiterating his focus on contributing to the state's development through platforms that "truly reflect the will and welfare of the people."
Political analysts suggest this public clarification may be aimed at reassuring PDP supporters of Odii's loyalty to the party, particularly as political parties begin preparations for future electoral contests.
