A 25-year-old man, Raji Ridwan, has confessed that cold weather prompted his attempt to rape a female university student in Osun State. The suspect made this startling admission on Tuesday while in custody.

According to reports, Ridwan forcefully entered the room of a 17-year-old 200-level student at the Federal University of Health and Science on Thursday, May 29, after she declined to engage in conversation with him.

Suspect's Confession

Ridwan explained that he was in the students' residential area because his uncle had instructed him to park his motorcycle at a house there. "But I got there immediately; it stopped raining, and it was cold. Suddenly the girl passed by and asked after the landlady. I asked her whether she knew the lady, but she refused to answer and went straight into her room," he stated.

"I ran after her and banged straight into the room with the aim to rape her. But the girl held my clothes tight and was shouting, which attracted neighbours, and I found a way to run away from the room," Ridwan added.

Arrest and Investigation

Osun Amotekun Commandant Adekunle Omoyele revealed that the suspect was later apprehended at a hideout following a complaint lodged at the Amotekun command in Ila. The investigation uncovered that Ridwan had previously raped one of his siblings and was severely beaten when caught.

Commandant Omoyele confirmed that the suspect would be arraigned in court to face charges for his actions.
