Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has no intention of defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) or any other political party, according to his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.
In a statement released on Wednesday in Osogbo, Rasheed emphatically dismissed media speculations about the governor's alleged imminent defection, describing such reports as "fake news."
"The media speculation about likely or imminent defection is fake news. Governor Adeleke remains a member and leader of the PDP in Osun State," the statement read.
Rasheed also addressed recent visits by the Adeleke dynasty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, clarifying that these were merely "routine courtesy visits" with no political undertones regarding party switching.
"Any reading of defection agenda into the visit is mere fake news," he emphasized.
APC Not Welcoming Adeleke
The clarification comes amid statements from former Osun House of Assembly Speaker, Timothy Owoeye, who had declared that Governor Adeleke would not be welcomed in the Osun APC.
Owoeye reportedly claimed that the governorship ticket of the Osun APC "is not for sale to the Adeleke family," suggesting tensions between the two political camps in the state.
The statement from Governor Adeleke's office appears aimed at putting to rest any speculation about his political allegiance, reaffirming his commitment to the PDP where he currently serves as a key leader in Osun State.
BenriNews had earlier reported on the political developments in Osun State, including claims from the APC accusing the state's Amotekun security outfit of allegedly acting as a tool of oppression for the PDP.
