Chief Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the 2023 Ebonyi State election, has categorically denied rumors suggesting he plans to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The PDP chieftain was responding to public statements attributed to Stanley Okoro Emegha, the APC chairman in Ebonyi State, who had hinted that Odii was considering joining the ruling party.
"No Compelling Reason to Join APC"
In a statement released on Wednesday, Odii firmly dismissed these claims, emphasizing his continued loyalty to the PDP. "Let me categorically state that I am not considering joining the APC, now or in the foreseeable future. I am yet to see any compelling reason, ideological, political, or developmental, that would warrant such a decision," the statement read.
Odii reaffirmed his commitment to the principles that have guided his political career, stating: "My commitment remains firmly with the ideals of purposeful leadership, people-oriented governance, and genuine democratic progress. These values continue to guide my actions and political engagements."
Call for Responsible Political Discourse
While acknowledging Emegha's right to express opinions and promote his party, Odii urged political leaders to exercise caution in their public statements. He called on political actors, "especially those in leadership positions, to refrain from speculative statements that may mislead the public or distort the political landscape of Ebonyi State."
The former gubernatorial candidate emphasized his belief in building a society "anchored on justice, equity, and service, not opportunism or political convenience," suggesting that his political decisions would continue to be guided by these principles rather than short-term political calculations.
This clarification comes amid ongoing political realignments in Ebonyi State and across Nigeria as parties prepare for future electoral contests. Odii's statement appears aimed at quelling speculation and reaffirming his position within the opposition PDP in the state.
