Former Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi, has disclosed that he deliberately avoids visiting Rivers State because seeing the current state of his completed projects triggers what he describes as a "mental disorder."

Speaking during a recent interview on Arise News, Amaechi expressed deep frustration over the abandonment and vandalization of key infrastructure projects he implemented during his tenure as governor.

Abandoned Legacy Projects

"I built primary schools, let any other governor who has built primary schools come forward in Rivers State," Amaechi stated. He specifically highlighted the deterioration of educational facilities that were once his administration's pride.

"I built secondary schools people were calling universities with two children per room and I got an agency in India to come and manage those schools and they brought science teachers from India and arts teachers from Nigeria," he explained.

The former minister lamented that these educational institutions are "now abandoned, vandalised. That's why I don't go to Rivers State because it gives you mental disorder."

Infrastructure Achievements

Amaechi also referenced his infrastructure accomplishments, noting, "People are building a flyover here and making noise. I built six flyovers. They're there and I did not make noise. I didn't call the President to come and commission."

Among his other achievements, Amaechi mentioned efforts to develop "a new city" and implementing "24 hrs power supply" which he claims were subsequently "abandoned and vandalised" after his administration.

Political Positioning

BenriNews reports that Amaechi, a prominent leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South-South region, currently stands in opposition to President Bola Tinubu's administration despite being a member of the same party.

The former Rivers governor is reportedly a key figure in a coalition exploring strategies to challenge President Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 elections.
