The Chief Press Secretary to Abia State Governor, Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman in Abia State, Kingsley Ononogbu, of attempting to mislead President Bola Tinubu with false claims against Governor Alex Otti.
The accusation comes in response to Ononogbu's statement on Sunday during the inauguration of Renewed Hope Partners by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, in Bende.
APC Chairman's Allegations
During the event, Ononogbu criticized Governor Otti for allegedly running a "One Man Show" leadership style in Abia State. The APC chairman specifically faulted the governor for governing the state from his private residence instead of the state capital in Umuahia and accused him of using social media propaganda to exaggerate his achievements.
Governor's Office Responds
In a sharp rebuttal, Ukoha described Ononogbu's remarks as a deliberate attempt to deceive President Tinubu about APC's political strength in Abia State. He urged the APC chairman to focus on improving his party's electoral performance rather than targeting Governor Otti.
"Ononogbu should desist from deceiving and misleading Mr. President and focus more on how to get votes for President Tinubu in 2027 and stop lying against Governor Otti who Abians are celebrating in every nook and cranny of the State," Ukoha stated.
The governor's aide also reminded Ononogbu that the APC managed to secure only 4% of votes for President Tinubu in Abia during the 2023 election, suggesting that the party chairman should concentrate on improving this performance.
Regarding the criticism about Governor Otti's residence, Ukoha noted that this issue had already been addressed by the state government and should not be used as a point of attack against the governor.
According to Ukoha, the APC chairman's actions are damaging the party's image in Abia State rather than strengthening its position.
