A violent clash between suspected gang members erupted Monday night in the Gangar Ruwa area of Samegu, along Madobi Road in Kano, leaving several injured including a local ward head.

According to eyewitnesses, the violence was triggered after gang members accused personnel of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) of killing one of their members.

"The situation got worse quickly, with gunshots heard in the early hours of Tuesday as security operatives arrived to restore order," a local resident told BenriNews.

The ward head sustained injuries while attempting to escape from the attackers. Several vehicles parked along the streets were also damaged during the violent confrontation.

Community Disruption and Safety Concerns

The violence has severely disrupted daily life in the area. Residents reported that children were unable to attend school on Tuesday, while many workers and traders remained at home fearing for their safety.

"The area is still not safe," said one concerned resident who requested anonymity. "We need a stronger presence from security forces to prevent further violence and protect innocent civilians."

Community members have called for increased security measures and a more robust response from law enforcement agencies to restore peace in the neighborhood.

Attempts by BenriNews to reach the Police Public Relations Officer in Kano, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, for official comment were unsuccessful as calls went unanswered.

This incident adds to growing concerns about gang-related violence in parts of Kano State, with authorities facing increasing pressure to address security challenges in urban neighborhoods.
