Nigerian singer Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, has appealed to the public to stop referring to her daughter Adejare as 'Duduke', a nickname derived from her 2020 hit song.

During a recent interview with VJ Adams, Simi expressed her discomfort with the nickname that fans have given her daughter, who was born in June 2020 to her and fellow musician Adekunle Gold.

"People call my daughter Duduke, which I don't like. That's not her name. It doesn't even mean anything," Simi stated. "Had it meant something good, I would have allowed it. But it's just a beat, duduke, duduke. That was what I meant. My heart beats like a drum."

The nickname originated from Simi's song 'Duduke', which she released in anticipation of her daughter's birth. The track quickly became popular among fans, who subsequently began referring to her child by the song's title rather than her actual name, Adejare.

Despite her clear preference, Simi acknowledged that fans' use of the nickname comes from a place of affection. "Stop calling my child Duduke," she said with a laugh before adding, "But you know what? I get it, it's coming from a good place, so I try not to react."

The 'Duduke' song was one of Simi's most celebrated releases, capturing the emotions of her pregnancy journey and the anticipation of motherhood. The singer explained that in the song, 'duduke' was simply an onomatopoeic expression meant to represent her heartbeat when thinking about her then-unborn child.

Simi and Adekunle Gold, who married in January 2019, welcomed their daughter in June 2020 and have occasionally shared glimpses of their family life with fans while largely keeping their daughter away from the public eye.
