Residents of Igando-Ikotun Local Council Development Area (LCDA) staged a protest at the Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat in Ikeja on Monday, expressing strong opposition to the renomination of Lasisi Akinsanya for another term as council chairman.

The demonstrators, armed with placards and banners, voiced significant dissatisfaction with Akinsanya's leadership, pointing to what they described as stagnation and underdevelopment in the LCDA during his administration.

Residents Voice Concerns Over Leadership

Speaking on behalf of the protesters, Comrade Olokodana Bukhari delivered a stern warning to the APC leadership about potential political consequences if Akinsanya's candidacy proceeds.

"Hon. Lasisi Akinsanya has been imposed as the party's candidate for the coming polls. We are here to alert the party hierarchy that he is not fit to represent our LCDA. Endorsing his candidacy is a recipe for disaster in 2025 and could affect the APC's fortunes in the 2027 general elections," Bukhari stated.

The protesters' grievances extended beyond Akinsanya himself, as they also criticized former Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola and an APC chieftain identified as Enilolobo for allegedly backing his candidacy.

Allegations of Poor Performance

Bukhari accused Akinsanya of political alignments that have not served the party's interests. He claimed that during previous elections, the chairman failed to deliver electoral success for the APC, raising questions about his commitment to party objectives.

"The council consistently ranks at the bottom of the state's monthly development reports. All the protesters you are seeing here are residents of the LCDA without any political affiliations. We therefore call on the party hierarchy to review the candidature of Hon. Akinsanya," he added.

Mrs. Dayo Aderinmola, identified as a women leader in the area, urged the APC to thoroughly investigate concerns raised in their formal petition, warning that the community had experienced minimal development during Akinsanya's tenure.

APC Response to Protesters

The APC state secretary, Dr. Adeola Jokomba, addressed the protesters outside the secretariat, assuring them that their concerns would be reviewed. He cautioned against any attempts by external elements to hijack the protest for other purposes.

Jokomba acknowledged the formal complaint by signing the letter presented by the protesters and promised that the group's leader, Comrade Adebayo Ifedayo, would be contacted by party officials before the end of the week.

The protest comes as Lagos State prepares for local government elections, with political tensions rising across various councils in the state.
