Edo State Police Command has apprehended two suspects in connection with the disappearance of Edward Onalise, a 49-year-old mechanic who went missing in Benin City since April 12, 2025.
Police spokesperson Moses Yamu confirmed the arrest of Ekundayo Ohimaye and Okuze Saturday while addressing journalists on Tuesday in Benin City. According to Yamu, Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding Onalise's disappearance.
"The case is under investigation, and we will keep the public informed as the investigation progresses," Yamu stated.
Details of the Disappearance
Onalise, who specializes in repairing Mercedes Benz vehicles and operates near the Benin airport road, also works as a commercial driver. Sources familiar with the case revealed that on the day of his disappearance, he was allegedly hired by an unidentified person to transport a refrigerator to Obazangbo community but never returned home.
His wife, Charity Onalise, became concerned when her husband didn't return and his mobile phone was switched off despite multiple attempts to reach him. After contacting family members, a missing person report was filed with the police.
Breakthrough in the Case
A significant development occurred on May 25, 2025, when authorities recovered Onalise's vehicle at a residence in Obazangbon community. This discovery led to the arrest of Ekundayo Ohimaye, who reportedly told investigators that he purchased the vehicle from Okuze Saturday, who was subsequently arrested.
During a search of Saturday's residence, police recovered several of Onalise's personal belongings, including his mobile phone, radio transistor, slippers, and two SIM cards, according to sources close to the investigation.
The police have not yet disclosed whether they have located Onalise or determined his fate as the investigation continues. Authorities have promised to provide updates as new information becomes available.
