The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Osun State has extended the service year of 119 corps members who committed various infractions during their service year. This announcement came as the scheme disengaged 2,057 corps members from the 2024 Batch B Stream I service year.

The passing out ceremony, which was conducted in a low-key manner across various local government areas in the state, marked the successful completion of the mandatory one-year national service for those who fulfilled all requirements.

Details of the Extensions and Absconders

According to the Osun State NYSC Coordinator, Agbor Ndoma Obim, who supervised the ceremony in Osogbo on Tuesday, "a total of 2,057 Corps Members were successfully disengaged, while 86 received extensions and 33 were declared as absconders due to misconducts that contravene the NYSC bye-laws."

The coordinator was accompanied by Akinola Simeon, Deputy Director, South-West Area Office II, along with other senior officials of the scheme, who ensured a seamless and well-coordinated distribution of certificates across the various local government areas.

Safety Advisory to Corps Members

Speaking at the Olorunda LGA distribution center, Agbor issued important safety advice to the outgoing corps members. He urged them to "avoid night journeys, travel only from approved motor parks, and refrain from wearing the NYSC uniform while traveling to ensure personal safety."

The NYSC coordinator emphasized the scheme's pivotal role in fostering national unity across regional and cultural divides. He expressed gratitude to the Almighty for guiding the corps members through their service year and commended them for their resilience in facing numerous challenges.

The ceremony was attended by Local Government Inspectors, Zonal Inspectors, and other NYSC officials who oversaw the distribution of Certificates of National Service to the deserving corps members.
