The Nasarawa State Police Command has successfully rescued the traditional ruler of Dari community, Emmanuel Omanji, who was abducted by gunmen last week, authorities confirmed on Monday.

According to a statement issued by the command's spokesperson, Ramhan Nansel, in Lafia, the monarch was rescued unhurt around 9 pm on Monday, June 2, 2025, following a coordinated search operation.

The traditional ruler was kidnapped on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, when armed men stormed his residence in Kokona Local Government Area, firing shots sporadically before taking him away.

Rescue Operation Details

Police spokesperson Nansel revealed that the monarch was found in the Panwasa Mountains, near Mada Station, following "sustained pressure from the Command's Search and Rescue Team."

"Immediately after the rescue, the victim was taken to the hospital for medical evaluation and has since been reunited with his family," the statement read. "Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects involved in the abduction."

The Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, expressed gratitude to members of the public for providing valuable information that aided the rescue operation. He also acknowledged the collaborative efforts of other security agencies and local vigilante groups, which he described as "instrumental to the success of this mission."

This rescue comes amid growing concerns about the security of traditional rulers in various parts of Nigeria, with several cases of abductions reported in recent months.

The Nasarawa State Police Command has assured the public that investigations are continuing to bring the perpetrators to justice, as authorities intensify efforts to improve security in the area.
