Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has launched a scathing attack on former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, accusing him of dishonesty in his recent criticisms of President Bola Tinubu's administration.
Speaking during his monthly media parley in Abuja on Monday, Wike dismissed Amaechi's claims about hunger in Nigeria, suggesting that the former Transportation Minister was merely frustrated about being out of power.
"I don't know how a man will choose his 60th birthday to tell lies. It's unfortunate that in your 60th birthday that people are celebrating you, you choose to tell lies," Wike stated.
The FCT Minister recounted Amaechi's political journey, noting that he had spent eight years as Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly from 1999 to 2007, followed by eight years as governor from 2007 to 2015, and another eight years as a federal minister.
"He was the most pompous Speaker. He was living in London as a Speaker. He became a governor 2007 to 2015. Eight years as a Speaker and eight years as a governor, he never talked about hunger," Wike remarked.
Wike further alleged that Amaechi's recent alignment with opposition figures was driven by political ambition rather than genuine concern for Nigerians.
"He was a minister for eight years, and two years after he left power he became hungry – hungry for power. He joined Atiku and El-Rufai because he is hungry. He can't just stay out of power," Wike added.
The comments come amid growing political tensions between the two former allies who have become fierce rivals in Rivers State politics. Amaechi reportedly made critical remarks about the current administration during his recent 60th birthday celebration.
This latest exchange adds to the ongoing political drama in Rivers State, where Wike, despite serving in Tinubu's cabinet, has maintained significant influence in state politics, often at odds with his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
