Former Inter Milan striker Antonio Cassano has launched a scathing criticism of manager Simone Inzaghi following Inter's historic 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the 2024-25 UEFA Champions League final.
The defeat marks the heaviest loss ever suffered by any club in a Champions League final, with PSG claiming their first-ever European crown in dominant fashion.
PSG's goals came through Achraf Hakimi, a brace from Desire Doue, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Senny Mayulu as the French champions dismantled the Italian side.
"Destroyed in All Respects"
Speaking to Viva el Futbol, Cassano did not hold back in his assessment of Inter's performance, stating that his former club was "destroyed in all respects" by PSG.
"Inter was destroyed in all respects. Personality, game quality, ideas," Cassano said as quoted by Tribal Football. "The worst defeat in a Champions League final... It was an exhibition."
The former striker pointed out that while Inzaghi's tactics had worked effectively against Bayern Munich in the quarterfinals and Barcelona in the semifinals, they proved completely ineffective against Luis Enrique's PSG side.
"It will be hard to get up, to understand who to start from, it will be very hard, it remains in your mind how I have been carrying 4-0 from Spain for so long," the Italian added, suggesting the psychological impact of such a defeat could be long-lasting.
Uncertain Future
The historic defeat has raised questions about Inzaghi's future at the club, despite his success in guiding Inter to the Champions League final. Reports suggest the Inter Milan board is evaluating their options following the embarrassing result.
For PSG, the victory represents a landmark achievement as they secured their first UEFA Champions League trophy, finally fulfilling the ambitions of their Qatari owners after years of heavy investment in the club.
