The Taraba State Government has commenced the issuance of appointment letters to over 2,000 newly appointed aides of Governor Agbu Kefas, following months of anticipation.

According to a statement released on Monday by the Secretary to the Government of the State (SGS), Barrister Gebon T. Kataps, the distribution process will officially begin on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.

The appointees have been directed to report to the Political Department at the SGS office to collect their appointment letters and complete the necessary documentation.

This development follows the recent inauguration of Chairpersons and Members of Boards and Parastatals, Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants, and Community Special Assistants by Governor Kefas, who had previously not been issued with formal appointment letters.

Guidelines for Civil Servants

The statement outlined specific procedures for appointees who are currently serving civil servants. In accordance with Section 192(4) and Section 196(3) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), and the Public Service Rules (PSR 030423), career civil servants appointed to statutory commissions or as special advisers must either withdraw, resign, or retire from service before their documentation and appointment letters can be finalized.

"Civil servants appointed to other political offices must apply for a Leave of Absence through the Head of Civil Service, as stipulated in PSR 100236, if they intend to return to the civil service after their political tenure," the statement clarified.

The government emphasized that failure to comply with this directive would result in the officer being deemed to have absconded from duty.

This mass issuance of appointment letters represents one of the largest batches of political appointments in Taraba State's recent history, potentially reshaping the state's governance structure as Governor Kefas continues to implement his administration's agenda.
