The Benue State Police Command has confirmed a deadly attack on Tyoshin community in Naka, the headquarters of Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State, which occurred on Sunday night.

According to reports, armed attackers invaded the community under the cover of darkness, unleashing terror on residents. Many people are feared dead following the assault, though exact casualty figures have not been officially confirmed.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Benue State Command, Edet Udeme, confirmed the incident, stating that the attack extended to both Naka and Apa areas.

"This is to confirm that there was an attack yesterday at Naka and Apa," Udeme said. "Tactical teams have been deployed and are already on the ground. They are on top of the situation. I will get back to you after obtaining further and accurate information."

The latest attack comes amid ongoing security challenges in Benue State, with previous reports indicating that the Catholic Church had shut down over 15 parishes in the state due to herdsmen attacks.

In a separate but potentially related incident, reports suggest that over 25 people were killed as suspected herdsmen attacked Edikwu Ankpali in Apa, Benue State, though police have not yet confirmed if these incidents are connected.

Security forces continue to monitor the situation closely as investigations into the attacks proceed. Local residents have expressed concern over the recurring violence in the region and called for enhanced security measures to protect vulnerable communities.

Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities while assuring the public that efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators and prevent further attacks.
