Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, has strongly criticized former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi for his recent comments about hunger in Nigeria.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, Olayinka expressed disbelief that Amaechi would complain about the current administration after having spent 23 years in various government positions himself.
"After spending 23 years in government, Rotimi Amaechi is still blaming the government," Olayinka wrote. "8 years as Speaker, 8 years as governor, and 7 years as Minister. Some people sha no get shame."
Olayinka further pointed out that "Since 1999, Rotimi Amaechi has only been out of Govt for just TWO YEARS," adding, "Rotimi Amaechi said he is hungry, and you are supporting him because you don't like those in govt now."
Amaechi's Recent Comments
The criticism follows statements made by Amaechi during his 60th birthday celebration in Abuja, where the former minister claimed that both he and most Nigerians are experiencing hunger under the current administration.
During the celebration, Amaechi also suggested that an opposition coalition has the capacity to remove President Bola Tinubu from power. He criticized Nigerian politicians for quarreling over the sharing of the country's resources rather than generating ideas for national development.
This exchange highlights the ongoing political tensions between allies of Minister Wike and former Minister Amaechi, who have a long history of political rivalry in Rivers State politics before their respective appointments to federal positions.
Amaechi has recently positioned himself as a critic of the current administration, having previously stated that he would not support or work with President Tinubu.
