The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects allegedly responsible for the kidnap and murder of a female bank manager in Onitsha, after collecting a ransom of N14 million from her family.

Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, identified the suspects as Monday Egbe, 32, and Kenneth Nnoga, 28. The duo was apprehended on May 28, 2025, following diligent investigations that led police operatives to their hideout in a neighboring state.

According to police reports, the victim's lifeless body was discovered on January 13, 2025, along Nnobi Road with her eyes tied, despite her abductors having already collected the N14 million ransom from her family.

The suspects are currently undergoing interrogation as investigators work to uncover the criminal gang's modus operandi and potentially arrest other members involved in the heinous crime.

Police Commitment to Justice

Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has reassured the public that the command will continue to protect lives and properties, diligently follow up on cases, and ensure justice is served for victims of crime in the state.

"The command remains committed to ensuring that perpetrators of violent crimes are brought to book, regardless of how long it takes to track them down," a statement from the police command indicated.

The swift action by the police has brought a measure of closure to the victim's family and renewed hope within the community. This arrest demonstrates the command's dedication to tackling violent crime and ensuring public safety across Anambra State.

The case highlights the ongoing challenges of kidnapping for ransom in parts of Nigeria, even when victims' families comply with ransom demands. Security experts continue to advocate for improved intelligence gathering and community policing to combat such crimes.
