Security forces have captured Dan Guntu, a notorious bandit leader operating in Katsina State, according to information shared by security analyst Bakatsine on Saturday.
The arrest was disclosed in a social media post accompanied by a video on X (formerly Twitter), where Bakatsine wrote: "Notorious bandit Ɗan Guntu has been captured. Shockingly, he targeted Fulani peaceful and God-fearing people just for being upright citizens."
In the video evidence shared online, Dan Guntu reportedly confessed to being the leader of a group of bandits that has been terrorizing communities from their base in the forest of Madam. The suspect also revealed the existence of another criminal faction operating within the same forest area, identified as the Ibrahim group.
This arrest represents a significant development in the ongoing battle against banditry in Katsina State, where armed groups have carried out numerous attacks on rural communities, including killings, kidnappings, and cattle rustling.
The security situation in Katsina has been particularly challenging, with recent reports indicating that banditry still threatens numerous local government areas in the state. Governor Dikko Radda has previously highlighted the persistent security challenges facing the region.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding Dan Guntu's capture or details about potential charges he might face.
The development comes amid intensified efforts by security agencies to combat the menace of banditry across Nigeria's northwestern states, where criminal groups have established strongholds in forested areas.
