The Kwara State Police Command has arrested eight suspects in connection with the disappearance and death of a two-month-old baby in Ilorin, the state capital.

State Police Commissioner Adekimi Ojo announced the arrests during a press conference in Ilorin on Saturday, revealing that the infant's body was discovered in a well within the community where he went missing.

According to the commissioner, the incident occurred on May 25, 2025, when Aishat Tahiru of No. 9, Maiduku area, Zango, reported at Kulende police station that her two-month-old son, Adam Tahiru, had disappeared.

"Aishat stated that at about 2130 hours, while observing her evening prayers, she left her two-month-old baby Adam Tahiru asleep on the sofa in her room. Shortly after, she instructed her daughter Mariam to check on him, but to her dismay, the child was nowhere to be found," Ojo explained.

Neighbors immediately conducted a search around the vicinity after an alarm was raised, but the baby could not be located. The case was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Ilorin on May 27, 2025, for a more thorough investigation.

"Following intelligence gathering and preliminary findings, eight suspects were arrested and are currently undergoing rigorous interrogation at the state CID," the commissioner said.

During the same press conference, Commissioner Ojo disclosed that the command had arrested a total of 37 suspects involved in various crimes across the state.

He also provided an update on the ongoing investigation into the abduction of multimillionaire petrol dealer Abbas Daniyan and his manager, Abubakar Issa, who were kidnapped 23 days ago at Gbugbu town in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.

"Police operatives are working assiduously to unravel the abduction and have embarked on combing the forest in search of the culprits," Ojo stated, adding that three other kidnap incidents had occurred after the May 10 abduction.

Other suspects arrested by the command were involved in criminal conspiracy, receiving stolen property, illegal possession of firearms, aiding and abetting, culpable homicide, and house breaking, among other offenses.
