Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi has singled out manager Luis Enrique as the deserving architect behind the club's historic UEFA Champions League triumph following their emphatic 5-0 victory over Inter Milan on Saturday.

The French champions secured their first Champions League title in the club's 54-year history with a commanding performance at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany.

Speaking after the match, Hakimi was effusive in his praise for Enrique, crediting the Spanish tactician with transforming the club's fortunes since his arrival in 2023.

"We have made history, we have written our names in the history of this club. For a long time this club deserved it," Hakimi said, as quoted by Reuters.

The Moroccan international added: "He [Luis Enrique] is the man who has changed everything at PSG. Since he came here, he has changed the way football is seen. He is a loyal man, he deserves it more than anyone else."

Enrique, who took charge of PSG in 2023 after stepping down as Spain's national team coach, has enjoyed remarkable success in Paris. In his debut season, he secured a domestic treble by winning Ligue 1 and other French competitions, but European glory had remained elusive until now.

The victory marks a significant milestone for PSG, who have invested heavily in pursuit of Champions League success over the past decade. Despite assembling star-studded squads and reaching the final in 2020, the club had previously fallen short of claiming Europe's most prestigious club trophy.

Hakimi himself made history during the final by getting on the scoresheet against his former club, contributing to PSG's commanding performance.

The triumph caps a remarkable European campaign for the Parisians and establishes Luis Enrique's reputation as one of the elite managers in world football, having previously won the Champions League with Barcelona in 2015.
