Former Minister of Environment, Barrister Mohammed Hassan Abdullahi, has officially resigned from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing "personal reasons" for his departure.
Abdullahi announced his decision in a formal letter dated June 1, 2025, addressed to the APC chairman of his Uke ward in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. The letter was also copied to other party officials.
In his resignation letter, the former minister expressed gratitude to the ward chairman and other party leaders for their support during his tenure with the APC. He acknowledged their collective efforts in making "modest contributions in building the party" in Nasarawa State.
"I wish you and the party good luck," Abdullahi stated in the letter, concluding his formal departure from the ruling party.
While Abdullahi did not explicitly outline his future political plans in the resignation letter, his departure comes after he had previously accepted calls to contest the 2027 Nasarawa State governorship election. At that time, he had cited the need to respond to "contemporary realities" as motivation for his potential gubernatorial bid.
Political analysts are now watching closely to see if Abdullahi's resignation signals a move to another political platform to pursue his gubernatorial ambitions in Nasarawa State.
The former minister's exit adds to the recent political movements within Nigeria's political landscape as parties begin positioning for the 2027 general elections.
