Former Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson has issued a subtle warning to leaders of the emerging political coalition, cautioning them to be mindful of their political choices ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking at the 60th birthday celebration of former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi in Abuja on Saturday, Dickson referenced the coalition that removed former President Goodluck Jonathan from office in 2015, suggesting that the change promised has not materialized for Nigerians.
"When I came in here and climbing up here, I've seen a lot of you. And as my brother said, there are a number of you who are expert conspirators, who know how to assemble coalitions and then take out governments, as you did to my party in 2015," Dickson stated.
He continued, "And when you did so, particularly to a clueless government, so-called, now 11 years down the line, we thought that there would have been no weaponization of poverty and that all the challenges of Nigeria would have been gone."
Coalition Building Against Tinubu
The comments come amid reports of a new political coalition being formed by prominent politicians including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, among others.
Earlier at the event, Atiku had openly declared himself, Amaechi, and El-Rufai as "conspirators" united in their opposition to President Bola Tinubu's administration.
In response, Dickson offered advice to the coalition builders: "And the only advice I can give, not being a professional coalition builder and conspirator as some of you are, is at this time, shine your eyes."
The gathering of top politicians at Amaechi's birthday celebration has fueled speculation about political realignments ahead of the 2027 presidential elections, with opposition figures appearing to consolidate their stance against the current administration.
Dickson's warning appears to remind the coalition leaders that their previous efforts to change Nigeria's political landscape by removing the PDP government have not necessarily delivered the improvements promised to Nigerians.
