A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has declared that the emerging coalition of opposition leaders against President Bola Tinubu's reelection in 2027 is destined to fail.
Speaking to journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, Oyintiloye advised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party's Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai to abandon their coalition efforts and instead support Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda.
"Over the last seventy years, the Nigerian political landscape has witnessed numerous attempts at coalition-building, often driven by a desire to consolidate power and challenge dominant parties. However, history has consistently shown that these coalitions rarely succeed," Oyintiloye stated.
The former lawmaker characterized the opposition alliance as "a mere gathering of aggrieved opposition leaders" whose motives are driven by personal ambition rather than national interest.
"The questions Nigerians should ask these coalition leaders are: why form a coalition against President Bola Tinubu? If they were in power, could they do anything better than what the president is doing?" he questioned.
Oyintiloye suggested that some opposition figures are motivated by disappointment at not receiving appointments in the current administration. "If the present administration had engaged and patronized some of these personalities with juicy appointments, they would be on the front line singing and praising the same government they are castigating now," he claimed.
The APC chieftain reminded the opposition of Tinubu's victory in the 2023 elections despite significant challenges. "Prelude to the 2023 general elections, forces within and outside were against Tinubu's election. Despite the fact that he was not in power, he still won. Now that the same Tinubu is in power, reviving the economy, how do opposition leaders think their coalition can unseat him?" he asked.
Oyintiloye urged opposition leaders, particularly those in the People's Democratic Party (PDP), to redirect their energies toward supporting the president's agenda for national development.
He also encouraged President Tinubu to maintain focus on his Renewed Hope Agenda and continue implementing economic and infrastructure reforms that he believes are boosting public confidence in the administration.
