Former House of Representatives member, Nkem Uzoma Abonta, has suggested that Abia State Governor Alex Otti's reluctance to include opposition party members in his administration stems from fears of potential sabotage.

Speaking during a live radio program on Flo FM Umuahia on Friday, Abonta, who represented Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal constituency in the National Assembly, noted that opposition members maintain a confrontational stance against the governor.

"I see him as a man who is careful and wants to take full responsibility for his actions and not too much delegation because of the system he met on the ground," Abonta stated. "He does not know who to trust. You don't be in a war and fighting mood and you expect one to sit down and discuss with you."

The former lawmaker advised members of his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and other opposition parties to abandon their combative posture if they wish to be accommodated in Otti's government.

Despite being a PDP member, Abonta acknowledged Governor Otti's achievements during his two years in office, highlighting initiatives that previous PDP administrations failed to implement.

"There is also the fear that he may be sabotaged. The State House of Assembly is there to debate whatever the Governor is doing. We elected them to represent us," he added.

Abonta specifically praised the governor for signing the Abia Old Persons Law, which provides healthcare and other support for elderly residents, as well as constructing new roads and addressing waste management issues in Aba.

Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, the former representative maintained that opposition parties could still defeat Governor Otti, but only if they field credible candidates.
