Firefighters from the Kwara State Fire Service came under attack on Saturday while responding to an emergency call at Adeta Roundabout in Ilorin, the state capital.

According to a statement released by the fire service spokesman, Hassan Adekunle, the incident occurred when the firefighters arrived at the scene to extinguish a fire that had engulfed one of the Ministry of Environment's buses.

"Upon arrival at the scene, our firefighters were unexpectedly attacked by a mob," Adekunle stated. "This unprovoked assault disrupted emergency operations and resulted in the windshield of our fire appliance being damaged."

The spokesman confirmed that despite the violent confrontation, no firefighter sustained injuries during the incident.

Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, strongly condemned the attack on emergency responders who were simply carrying out their duty to protect lives and property.

The Director urged all citizens of Kwara State to remain law-abiding and peaceful, emphasizing that such attacks hamper the effectiveness of emergency services. He appealed to the public for support and cooperation during emergency operations.

This incident highlights growing concerns about the safety of emergency responders in Nigeria, who occasionally face hostility while performing their duties. The Kwara State Fire Service has reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property despite these challenges.

Authorities have not yet provided information about any arrests made in connection with the attack or the cause of the initial bus fire.
