The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Water Board has announced a two-week disruption of water supply services across the territory due to ongoing rehabilitation work at the Lower Usuma Dam water treatment plants.
According to a statement and audio advertisement released by the board, the disruption will affect both the city centre and outskirts of Abuja, commencing Friday, May 30, 2025, and continuing until Friday, June 13, 2025.
The rehabilitation work is necessary to facilitate "the connection of the electro-mechanical equipment of its treatment plants, which is a major component of the rehabilitation work," the board explained.
Residents Advised to Store Water
In light of the impending water shortage, the FCT Water Board has urged residents, particularly its customers, to take proactive measures by storing sufficient water to last throughout the two-week period.
"FCT Water Board appeals to the residents particularly its customers to kindly store water that will last them for this period, including an alternative supply to augment their needs," the statement read.
The board expressed regret for any inconveniences the disruption might cause residents but emphasized the necessity of the rehabilitation work for improved service delivery.
This development comes as part of ongoing infrastructure improvements in the Federal Capital Territory, which has seen various upgrades to public utilities in recent months.
Residents are advised to make adequate preparations for the water supply disruption and consider alternative water sources during this period.
