Vigilante members at Marine Quarters in Warri, Delta State, have apprehended a former colleague identified as Simple for allegedly breaking into a parked Lexus vehicle on Friday morning.

The suspect was caught in the act after breaking the back windscreen of the vehicle parked along Gbiaye Street, off 3rd Marine Gate. Eyewitnesses report that the vigilante members subdued the suspect and administered physical punishment before detaining him.

When questioned by reporters, Simple, who was formerly a vigilante member in the same area, expressed remorse for his actions, stating: "I feel very much ashamed of myself now." He attributed his criminal behavior to financial pressure.

As of the time of reporting, the suspect remains in the custody of the vigilante group, who are awaiting police arrival for formal handover, further interrogation, and possible prosecution.

This incident comes just one week after another theft in the same vicinity, where suspected thieves broke into the secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Warri Correspondents' Chapel, and stole expensive cables connected to the diesel-powered generator. The secretariat is also located on Gbiaye Street, raising concerns about the rising incidents of theft in the area.

Local residents have expressed concern over the increasing rate of theft in the area and have called on law enforcement agencies to increase surveillance and security measures to curb criminal activities.
