The Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has lauded Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia for what it described as "unprecedented transformation" in the state's basic education sector during his first two years in office.

In a goodwill message signed by SUBEB Executive Chairman Dr. Grace Adagba and released to journalists on Wednesday in Makurdi, the board highlighted significant reforms and strategic service delivery that have redefined public education in Benue State.

"In just two years, the Governor has shown that true transformation is achievable with political will. The Governor's commitment to revitalising Benue's education sector is visible in the massive renovation and construction of school infrastructures, provision of classroom furniture, and installation of water and WASH facilities in schools across the state," the statement reads.

Key Educational Reforms

According to Adagba, the Alia administration has implemented several transformative initiatives including:

- Introduction of a transparent e-payment system for teachers
- Large-scale teacher training programmes
- Deployment of instructional materials to schools
- Creation of both digital and non-digital libraries
- Revival of sports and creative arts in schools
- Recruitment of thousands of new teachers through a credible computer-based testing process
- Construction of modern storey buildings with whiteboards replacing outdated chalkboards

The SUBEB chairman noted that these reforms have not only improved learning environments but also "restored dignity to public education, which had suffered years of neglect."

Teacher Welfare Initiatives

The board also commended Governor Alia's commitment to teacher welfare, highlighting achievements such as prompt payment of salaries and pensions, implementation of a new minimum wage, and the restoration of nursery sections in public schools.

"This is a government that understands education as the cornerstone of human capital development," Adagba stated, adding that these measures are "building a solid foundation for the future."

The SUBEB chairman expressed optimism about the future of education in Benue State under Governor Alia's leadership, stating that the board anticipates "even greater progress in the years ahead."

"We celebrate the Governor's achievements, and we pray for continued strength, wisdom, and grace to lead Benue State to even greater heights," the statement concluded.
