Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu has announced his intention to shift focus from governance to re-election campaigns, declaring that he is now ready to concentrate on securing a second term in office.
Speaking to a large gathering of supporters under the aegis of Cross River Political Network (CRISPON) during events marking his administration's second anniversary, Governor Otu stated that he would resume active politicking immediately after Democracy Day on May 29.
"As from next week after the 29 May Democracy Day when I complete two years in office, I will resume and devote more time for politicking towards 2027. I have done two years of real governance," Otu declared.
The governor expressed satisfaction with his administration's performance thus far, stating: "What I've done in these two years, I never imagined I could have done it. But I have enjoyed your overall support."
Federal Alignment Benefits
Governor Otu highlighted the advantages Cross River State has gained through its alignment with the federal government under the All Progressives Congress (APC). He attributed these benefits to President Bola Tinubu's magnanimity and suggested more favorable considerations would come from maintaining ties with the ruling party.
"Cross River won't be cheated anymore," the governor assured, promising that his administration remains committed to making deeper impacts on the populace.
Prince Mike Nku Abuo, Director General of CRISPON, earlier addressed the gathering, praising both President Tinubu and Governor Otu for their achievements. The organization called for automatic second-term tickets for both leaders and pledged to continue public outreach efforts.
The governor's announcement comes amid mixed reactions to his administration's performance, with the opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP) reportedly criticizing his two-year tenure. Meanwhile, reports indicate that ten political parties have joined forces with the aim of unseating Governor Otu in the 2027 elections.
