Suspended Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara has acknowledged reaching a critical juncture in his administration, stating he now faces "difficult decisions" as the state's political crisis appears to be moving toward resolution.

In a statement released Thursday to mark his second year in office, Fubara called for reconciliation while pledging to work collaboratively with all stakeholders for Rivers State's advancement.

"We are at a crucial point in our journey, where difficult decisions must be made. Be assured that every step we take will be guided by your best interests and the enduring good of Rivers State," Fubara stated.

The statement comes as the federally-imposed state of emergency in Rivers approaches its conclusion. President Bola Tinubu had declared the emergency amid an escalating political conflict between Fubara and his predecessor, current FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, over the state's political control.

Reconciliation Efforts Underway

Recent developments suggest a potential thaw in relations, with Fubara meeting Wike to seek reconciliation. Following their meeting, Wike expressed readiness for peace while describing the suspended governor as "his son."

In his anniversary statement, Fubara emphasized his commitment to fostering "peace, reconciliation, and forgiveness," which he described as "essential to restoring normalcy and delivering transformational infrastructure, impactful programmes, and life-changing services across the State."

The governor appealed to those still affected by the recent political struggles: "Let us turn the page, come together, and focus on our shared goal of progress and unity. The time to rebuild and rise is now."

Fubara expressed gratitude for public support during the turbulent period, noting that it had "emboldened" him to continue working for the state's betterment rather than retreating.

The political crisis in Rivers State has been closely watched across Nigeria as a significant test of federal-state relations and intra-party politics within the country's complex political landscape.
