The Abia State Police Command has confirmed the deaths of an entire family after a man set their home ablaze in what appears to be a domestic dispute fueled by allegations of infidelity.

Mr. Udochi Amala, his wife, and their 2-year-old daughter all perished following the incident which occurred on May 16, 2025, at Asa Umudioka autonomous community in Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area of Abia State.

According to Police Public Relations Officer DSP Maureen Chinaka, the tragic event was reported to the Osisioma Police Divisional Headquarters by the head of the local vigilante group, who responded to screams and discovered the Amala residence engulfed in flames.

"Mr. Amala repeatedly accused his wife of indulging in infidelity and in response, set himself and his family who were inside the house on fire, leading to the tragic death of their 2-year-old daughter," DSP Chinaka stated.

Police detectives from Osisioma Division immediately visited the scene and recovered the body of the child, which was taken to the morgue. Mrs. Amala, who initially survived with critical burns, was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Mr. Amala, who also sustained serious injuries in the fire he allegedly started, was arrested and taken to the same hospital for medical attention.

"However, on 17/05/2025, both Mr. Udochi Amala and his wife, who were receiving medical attention, were confirmed dead by the hospital," the police spokesperson added.

This incident highlights the devastating consequences of domestic disputes and raises concerns about the need for better conflict resolution mechanisms within families.

The police have not provided further details about the investigation, but such cases typically involve posthumous inquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
