President Bola Tinubu has appointed additional members to fill vacancies in the governing councils of several Federal Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education across Nigeria, according to a statement released on Wednesday.
The announcement, made by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, comes shortly after similar appointments were made for the University of Abuja, University of Nigeria, and Nnamdi Azikiwe University.
The new appointments span across 36 educational institutions nationwide, reflecting a broad geographical representation with appointees from various states across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones.
Key Appointments
Among the notable appointments are Hon. Chidi Nwogu (Imo State) to the African Aviation and Aerospace University, Abuja; Dr. Folashade Mulikat Kareem (Kwara State) to the University of Jos; and Dipe Olusina Adeniyi (Lagos State) to the Federal University of Technology, Ikot-Abasi, Akwa-Ibom State.
Other significant appointments include Mr. Babatunde Usman Jinadu (Lagos State) to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi; Hon. Bello Bagudu (Kebbi State) to the Federal University of Health Sciences, Katsina; and Hon. Goodluck Opiah (Imo State) to the Federal College of Education, Odugbo, Benue State.
The appointments also cover newer institutions such as the Federal University of Technology, Babura in Jigawa State, where Akanimo Umoh from Akwa Ibom State has been appointed as a member of the governing council.

Some institutions received multiple appointments, such as the Federal College of Education, Omoku, Rivers State, which had three new council members: Hon. Bassey Etim (Akwa Ibom), Hon. Chris Eta (Cross River), and Hon. Shuaib Yahaya (Katsina).
According to Onanuga's statement, all appointments take immediate effect, signaling the administration's commitment to strengthening governance structures within Nigeria's federal tertiary institutions.
These appointments come at a time when Nigeria's education sector faces various challenges, including funding issues and the need for improved governance and administration in tertiary institutions.
