Senate Minority Leader and Benue South Senator, Comrade Abba Moro, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus in the National Assembly is fully aligned with the party's ongoing revival strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Moro made this declaration while addressing the 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the PDP held on Tuesday at Legacy House in Maitama, Abuja.
"Members of the PDP in the National Assembly are completely in tandem with the efforts of the National Working Committee, the Board of Trustees, governors, and other critical stakeholders of our great party to revamp its fortunes," Moro stated.
The Senate Minority Leader emphasized the unity within the party's legislative caucus, assuring stakeholders that PDP lawmakers remain committed to the leadership's strategic plan, which includes a series of activities culminating in the national convention.
"We believe that given the circumstances we find ourselves in as a party, there's no better time than now to line up activities that will re-assure members of the PDP, lovers of democracy, and the Nigerian people at large that PDP is coming back," he added.
Addressing Recent Defections
Moro acknowledged the challenges posed by recent defections from the party but maintained that these setbacks do not define the PDP's future. He expressed confidence that the party, with its enduring ideals and nationwide structure, remains the strongest political brand in Nigeria.
"While we acknowledge that the defection of senior members may pose temporary challenges, we are confident that the party, with its enduring ideals and vision, will emerge stronger and remain the party to beat in 2027," he emphasized.
The senator reminded attendees that the PDP was founded on democratic principles by a small group of visionaries without governors, presidents, or lawmakers, yet grew into a formidable national force. He urged members not to lose faith in the party's potential.
"Given the antics of the ruling party to keep us down, we must remind ourselves that Nigeria deserves an alternative, and that alternative is the PDP," Moro declared.
The NEC meeting drew attendance from key party figures, including members of the National Working Committee, the Board of Trustees, PDP governors, and the leadership of the party's National Assembly caucus, among other stakeholders.
