Senator Abba Moro, representing Benue South Senatorial District and serving as Senate Minority Leader, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is positioning itself for a strong comeback in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at the party's 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Tuesday at Legacy House, Maitama, Abuja, Moro expressed unwavering confidence in the party's ongoing revitalization efforts.

"We have complete confidence in the lineup of activities by the leadership of the party, which will culminate in the national convention," Moro stated. "There's no better time than now to assure members, supporters, and lovers of democracy in Nigeria that PDP is coming back."

The Senate Minority Leader affirmed that PDP members in the National Assembly fully support the National Working Committee, Board of Trustees, governors, and other key stakeholders in their collective efforts to restore the party's political dominance.

Addressing Recent Defections

While acknowledging recent defections that have affected the party, Moro maintained that these were merely temporary setbacks. He emphasized that the PDP remains Nigeria's largest political brand with a strong nationwide presence.

"Nigeria deserves an alternative, and that alternative is the PDP," Moro declared, expressing confidence that the party's ideals and vision would make it the party to beat in the upcoming 2027 elections.

The Senator recalled the party's humble beginnings with just 16 founding members who envisioned a democratic party capable of providing purposeful leadership for Nigeria. He urged party members to remain united and confident in the face of current challenges.

The PDP, which ruled Nigeria for 16 consecutive years (1999-2015) before losing power to the All Progressives Congress, has been working to reorganize its structure and strategy following electoral setbacks in recent years.

The upcoming national convention is expected to be a crucial turning point in the party's preparations for the 2027 general elections.
