A faction within the All Progressives Congress (APC) known as the APC League has called for the immediate expulsion of Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia over alleged anti-party activities and betrayal of party principles.

In a statement signed by its national president, John Ogiri, the group accused Governor Alia of undermining the party's unity and cohesion in Benue State, warranting disciplinary action from the party's National Working Committee (NWC).

The APC League pointed to the governor's conspicuous absence from the recent APC National Summit at the State House, where President Bola Tinubu was endorsed for the 2027 presidential election, as evidence of his disconnection from the party's national leadership.

"Despite the feeble attempt by his Chief Press Secretary to explain it away, no single image or evidence was presented to prove he participated at the summit at the State House," the statement read. "His belated appearance, just ten minutes before the end of the event, was clearly a face-saving afterthought."

The group further alleged that Governor Alia has systematically sidelined the APC structure in Benue State by marginalizing the State Executive Committee, refusing to convene meetings, and excluding elected representatives from party affairs.

Allegations of Secret Collaborations

According to the APC League, Governor Alia has been secretly collaborating with Senator Gabriel Suswam and other political figures opposed to APC interests in Benue State, which has deepened divisions within the party.

"More disturbing is the growing evidence of Governor Alia's covert alignment with Senator Gabriel Suswam, El-Rufai and other actors opposed to APC interests in Benue and Nigeria at large," the statement continued.

The group also claimed there is evidence suggesting the governor is planning to defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections, noting that "his allies are visibly embedded in the operations of the ADC, while the APC structure in Benue is being deliberately crippled."

Call for Disciplinary Action

The APC League emphasized that Governor Alia has ignored multiple reconciliation mechanisms initiated by the party's NWC in Benue State, demonstrating what they described as a refusal to submit to party discipline and unity efforts.

"Let it be remembered that Governor Alia rode to power on the back of the APC structure and sacrifices of loyal party members. That same structure is now being treated with contempt," the statement added.

The group has urged the NWC to take swift action against Governor Alia, including expulsion, for what they termed as gross misconduct and anti-party activities.

As of the time of this report, Governor Alia has not publicly responded to these allegations.
