The African Democratic Congress (ADC) National Chairman, Ralph Nwosu, has described the recent formation of a political coalition ahead of the 2027 elections as "an opportunity that will wrestle the country from the clutches of dictators and tyrants."

The coalition brings together prominent political figures including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party's 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai under the ADC banner.

In a statement released in Calabar by ADC National Publicity Secretary Dr. Effiong Nyong, the party positioned itself as representing "a new dawn, a true opportunity for the emancipation of Nigeria's citizens."

Nwosu expressed optimism about the growing alignment among opposition figures, stating his confidence that their collaboration could establish a foundation for meaningful national growth. However, he voiced reservations about the character of some individuals joining the coalition at a time when Nigerians are increasingly losing faith in democracy, as evidenced by widespread voter apathy.

ADC: The Platform for National Rescue

According to Nwosu, the ADC's emergence as the coalition's platform is not coincidental but rather "the realization of a long-held dream." He highlighted the party's logo—a handshake—as symbolizing friendship, unity, and camaraderie, reflecting the spirit needed to restore trust in Nigeria's democratic system.

The ADC chairman criticized the "parochial and self-serving attitudes" prevalent among Nigeria's political class, particularly the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), describing this mindset as a major obstacle to national progress.

He further lamented the lack of clear ideology among many Nigerian political parties, which he said leads to frequent defections and politics driven more by personal gain than national vision, making it difficult for such parties to maintain loyal membership.

"The ADC is now poised to fulfill its destiny, at a time when the nation urgently needs transformation," Nyong quoted Nwosu as saying. "This is the reason the ADC was formed: to serve as the platform for a broad coalition of political parties and visionary leaders united by a common purpose; to rescue Nigeria."

Nwosu emphasized that the ADC is more than just a political vehicle for politicians, stressing the importance of critical stakeholders embracing integrity and character in alignment with the party's founding philosophy and vision—principles that he believes can propel Nigeria to its rightful place as a leading force in Africa.
