Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has firmly declared that no Local Government Area in the state will be allowed to fall under the control of Boko Haram or ISWAP terrorists. The governor made this vow on Monday while addressing State House correspondents after meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja.

Zulum revealed that the purpose of his visit was to brief President Tinubu on the current security situation in the North-East region, with particular focus on Borno State, which has been battling insurgency for over a decade.

"I made a call a few days ago that no local government shall be allowed to be taken over by Boko Haram or ISWAP members. It will never happen now," Zulum emphasized. "I'm calling on the Nigerian Armed Forces, civilian authorities, and all concerned stakeholders to rise to the occasion and defend our local government areas."

The governor's statement comes in the wake of recent attacks on Marte town by insurgents. Last week, Zulum had appealed to the Federal Government to deploy decisive strategies to prevent the town from falling to the terrorists.

According to the governor, his appeal has already begun yielding positive results. "Honourably speaking, we made a plea to the federal government of Nigeria, and I believe within the last couple of days, the Nigerian armed forces have taken some certain decisions that will curtail the imminence of the insurgency," he stated.

Zulum highlighted several initiatives that the Federal Government is planning to implement, including the establishment of forest guards, which he described as a potential "game-changer" in the fight against insurgency.

The governor also expressed concern about the sophisticated weapons being used by Boko Haram and ISWAP members but noted that the Federal Government is working to address this challenge.

"The president has given me assurance that they will do everything to control the situation, and I believe the federal government will do something," Zulum said. He added that, as governor, he would continue to strengthen community resilience and mobilize volunteers to complement the efforts of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

Zulum expressed confidence that with the support of the Nigerian Army and other armed forces, no local government in Borno State would fall into the hands of insurgents.

The meeting between Governor Zulum and President Tinubu underscores the Federal Government's continued commitment to addressing security challenges in the North-East region, particularly in Borno State, which has been the epicenter of the Boko Haram insurgency for years.
